So, I was safe during "Blackout 2003." And, actually, I wish things like that would happen more often. I know, there was much to bitch and moan about: no clean water for a couple of days, no air conditioning, five-way traffic lights suddenly transformed into 'four-way stops,' etc, etc.. But while riding my bike through town on Thursday evening, I have never witnessed so many people spending time outside with friends and family, just having a great time. So, if it takes a massive region-wide blackout to provide an excuse for a break from life, give me more of these fucking blackouts. Just try to make them happen on a cooler day...
Anyway, that night a couple of friends and I used my gas stove to cook everything that might've spoiled (turns out we were wrong). Nonetheless, we had a feast worthy of kings (and a queen). Later on we laid on our backs in my yard watching Mars (the closest it will *ever* get to Earth was last Thursday) and actually seeing a couple shooting stars. Just like in the movies. Cheesy movies, no less.
So... leave it up to me to take a tumble down about 10 stairs after the lights were turned back on. So, I'm sitting on the left side of my 'derriere' now that my right cheek has turned into a huge bruise. Fuuuck.
Other than that, I'm learning some new songs on my fiddle for a bar band I'm joining. We're called the Barflys and, quite honestly, I have no business being in a band with these guys... yep, they are really, really talented. Especially Auggie... this guy sings like Howlin' Wolf and he can play Jimi Hendrix tunes on the guitar and actually pull them off... that doesn't happen everyday folks. Nope, sure doesn't
Anyway, I'll leave you with a list of tunes I am learning:
Wishing the Days Away -- Billy Bragg
Little Honey -- The Blasters
Mansion on the Hill -- Hank Sr.
Fruitless Fortunes -- Swingin' Utters
Me and Bobby McGee -- Kris Kristofferson
Sittin' on Top of the World -- Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys
White Freightliner Blues -- Townes Van Zandt
Counrty Honk -- the Stones
C'mon... chime in with some suggestions!! Drive to Ohio and I'll play your requests!!

.. by the way, the "i before e" ditty does not apply to the word 'weird'.
