Cooking seems to become one of my hobbies these days. Due to the job I only have time to cook properly on weekends but lately I'm really interested in trying new things and changing old recipes I have learned from my mother. Nothing too fancy yet but things are proceeding fast.
Ever since I was a kid I could cook some basic things, my mother was raising me and my sister alone and she had to work fulltime so I had to make my own food when I came home after school. I could already open a mean can of ravioli back then.
I also really love cooking-shows on tv. Especially those from England. It's quite funny that a country that is always teased for their bad food has such amazing (and entertaining) tv-chefs. And I'm not only talking about Jamie Oliver here. My favorite would have to be Gary Rhodes ( http://www.garyrhodes.com/main.html ). His show is extremely fun to watch and he can always sounds as if he is about to get an orgasm just from making his dishes.
Since I'm German at first I had quite a hard time to understand what they were actually cooking. As you probably can imagine english kitchen-lingo is nothing we learn at school. So it took me some time to learn such basic words like parsley, leek, chives...
