Well, well well. 12 days out from my Teton climbing adventure and lo and behold I injure myself. A bit of back story. I've been climbing a bunch the last few months to maintain a fitness level for the mountains. My third day this past week, and the shortest planned due to heat and time constraints. Warm up goes fine, next route dandy. A bit of a break and then we jump on the third of the morning. I am a bit sore after 720 feet of technical climbing a few days earlier so I let the belayer know that a fall at the crux is likely. Great route, .10b face to horizontal cracks, finishing on a set of sloppers. I am not worried as I have smoked the route before and I am familiar with where to focus and breath. Flash forward to the crux, nearly through it all when I calmly mention that I am going to peel and to leave a bit of slack in the rope as I am at foot level with the cam. Ok, I let go for the nice controlled fall, the rope comes tight and I slam right foot first into the rock. Ok, about that slack? My ankle hurts. I get lowered, no intense swelling like a few years back when I broke my other ankle. Hmm maybe this will be fine...
Today the ankle is slightly more swollen and a little black and blue. I can walk and hold weight just fine, good range of motion although the constant RICE has it a bit stiff. When I wobble on the ankle I get a series of dull to sharp pain depending not he direction of wobble. It makes me grumpy. The missus insists it will be fine and I should give it a few days. I am a pessimist and think of the trip planning since December and the hard work that went into being in good form, not to mention the guys meeting me in Jackson are depending on me for a number of things
Thanks for reading.
