Poll after poll after poll after poll suggested that during the 2004 presidential elections the Supreme Court was hardly an issue that caught the concern of the American voters.
With the Bush nomination of John Roberts, maybe he will be worst than Scalia and Thomas and be more to the right. Maybe he will over turn Roe vs. Wade. Maybe he will be the 5 to 4 vote that puts religion back into the court rooms and public schools so that the people that pay taxes can watch as Christianity is shoved down their throat.
Almost 50% of the woman voters voted for Bush. Lets see how you like when you have to give notice before you can get an abortion. See how you like it when you can''t get birth control. See how you like not having control over you''re own body and reproductive choice.
What about the woman that can''t get pregnant through normal means? The religious right is going after in vitro fertilization saying that it should be thrown out because those embryos are human beings.
If you are a woman and voted for Bush, congratulations! You got what you wanted. Someone that will turn the clock backwards. 46% of you voted for Bush and this is what you are going to get.
So here you have Bush that appoints a guy with not much of a record that many say is as rightward, if not more than Scalia and Thomas.

"The conservatives'' comfort with Roberts comes from his work as a lawyer for the Reagan and first Bush administrations. For example, he advocated the administration''s position for the inclusion of religious content in public high-school graduation ceremonies, against a congressional effort to make it easier for minorities to argue that their votes had been diluted under the Voting Rights Act and against the right of private citizens to sue the government for violations of environmental law."
"He co-authored a 1990 brief to the Supreme Court arguing that doctors and clinics receiving federal funds may not talk to patients about abortion. That brief is certain to come up in his confirmation hearings, as it did in his 2003 bid for the appellate court, because of its assertion that "we continue to believe that Roe vs. Wade was wrongly decided and should be overruled."

"On another abortion-related issue, Roberts co-authored a government brief saying that even though Operation Rescue sought to prevent women from obtaining abortions by obstructing access to clinics, the group wasn''t subject to lawsuits under federal civil rights law because the organization had not engaged in a conspiracy targeting women because of their gender. "
"In another religion case, Roberts co-authored a brief that said prohibiting a religious group from meeting on school grounds violates the Equal Access Act and that granting access does not violate the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. "
Here we go again.
This guy doesn''t believe that you should be able to sue a corporation that pollutes you''re ground water. This guy thinks that you ought to sit through a graduation with someone telling you how great Jesus is. He doesn''t believe that you have a right to privacy and protection of you''re own reproductive choice.
What do you want to believe that he feels that gays shouldn''t have rights?

"The president is a man of his word," said Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group. "He promised to nominate someone along the lines of a Scalia or a Thomas, and that is exactly what he has done."

"Justice Souter was what some called a black box. No one knew what was in it," said James Dobson, head of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based evangelical group Focus on the Family. "I think we do know a lot about Judge Roberts from his life, from his record, from the things that he has stood for. And we feel much more comfortable with this nomination than we would have with Justice Souter."
Seems to me that these evangelical right winged nuts know exactly who Roberts is, and that is why they seem to be pleased with Bush''s nomination of John Roberts.
Could they expect him to be the 5th vote in these now 5 to 4 decisions that are going to go the other way? Continuously limiting more and more a woman''s access to abortion and birth control. Continuing to dismantle the separation of church and state. Continuing on the path of a court that has been pro corporation and pro big business at the detriment of consumers. Continue to support the attack on our civil liberties that this war on terror has done and continue to support the governments ability to literally take you off the street with a charge that they could hold you forever.
Roberts is the guy that will return us to the ban on late term abortion meaning that a woman in her 3rd trimester
who might die or be seriously harmed by a pregnancy will not be able to do anything about it except die or be harmed.
So we have the exit of Sandra Day, one of two woman left on the Supreme Court. Someone that was not one minded and wanted to unite, not divide; to be replaced with an Ideologue.
We Democrats warned you all, were we listened to? A president can serve 8 years, but if he gets nominees into the court he can effect you''re lives for 25 years. 46% of woman voters didn''t care.
