A huge feeling of relief washed over me today as I decided to look up wages in California knowing that we'll probably be spending about $1400-$1700 a month on an apartment (which is about what we're both spending now (though broken between two separate places)... well maybe a little more, but not too bad).
After finding a website that goes over jobs and gives the average wage for each I realized that almost all of them pay ALMOST TWICE AS MUCH as I made in Fargo!!! Talk about a huge sigh of relief! I went over jobs me and my friends (who I know what they make) were making in Fargo and it just brought a smile to my face knowing that I can do this. We can survive. The job I had at Swanson's? Pays 2 to 3 times as much in the Los Angeles area.
I talked to Christian about things today and about how I need to get my esthetician license before really breaking into the industry the way I want. And with his line of work being well paid (even sweeping floors/stippling latex/cleaning up molds at KNB is something around $18 an hour.... sculpting goes up to $47 an hour...) but not steady.
Realistically, if I can get a job like mine in Fargo making $20-$30 an hour we could live off my income in a pinch if he's between work for a month or two. Then we could use his income for things like getting married, a down payment for a house, savings, going to Australia to see Lee get married, new tools we need for our trades, the cost of my additional schooling. This would take a huge amount of pressure off of both of us.
Even after I'm done with additional school, I could stay on part time to supplement my blossoming career as a makeup artist.
Seriously, I feel so much better now.
