Shitting out the Coal
So, I finally joined The Cult today. An online writing group inspired by Chuck Palahniuk. I've been going around reading stuff and looking at all they have to offer and I think it's going to be a great place to help me improve upon my craft. It's time again, I can feel it, time to delve back into the world of writing. I got my week off, but that's over now. Now it's all about "shitting out the coal" as they wrote on the site and getting a rough draft done for me to work on and adapt from.
I'm no longer editing, showing people drafts or doing anything that isn't purely writing forward and getting my rough draft done.... once I get the draft done, I'll be about half the way done with the actual process (or probably a lot less...), but at least then I'll know what I'm working with. And it'll be nice to be able to go back and forth and play with scenes so freely and without worry that I should be creating new things. I'm really looking forward to that. So it's time to get a crappy draft out just so I know where I'm going. And not care about the quality, but just producing something I can work with later.
That's what I'm worried about right now, having something I can work with in full. I think my story starts too soon, but I'm not sure and I don't want to go about re-editing it. I'm looking forward to the editing more than anything else right now. I think I might up my requirements to 1k words on days I work and 2k words on days I don't.
