HURRICANE PARTY!!!!!!!!
Okay so I don't know if any of you were following the weather, but Bermuda over here just got a nice taste of Hurricane Bill.
Please note that Bermuda is that tiny dot on engulfed in hurricane force winds on the north east side of the storm. Now usually people are panicking; do we have batteries for the flashlights? Candles for when the power goes out? Non-perishable food? Actually, that's what everyone was doing, but fuck that. It's the weekend, and Friday nights call for a party.
And so Tarah & I, plus 6, checked ourselves into one of the best hotels on the island, the Fairmont Southampton Princess, and threw ourselves a little hurricane party. Liquor, cigarettes, ganja, guitars, room service, and the guarantee that our power wasn't going to get knocked out, at the cost of about $25 a person.
At around 10pm that night when the storm was getting closer we made a very safety conscious decision and ran outside to jump in the jacuzzi. Despite the rain and winds, the air was warm, and being in a jacuzzi being surrounded by such a vicious albeit beautiful force of nature (and certainly feeling the impact of nature's fury) I have never felt so much a part of the universe. It was incredibly spiritual.
After we went inside we took a look back outside and judged the angles of the palm trees (to measure the force of thew wind, obviously). Tarah decided that no, the weather was in fact NOT bad enough to stay in the hotel all night, and that we would in fact be going to town.
We showered, I straightened my hair, threw my clothes back on and my H&M trench and out we went.
This storm didn't ever make a direct hit and although it was category 4 at one point, it was only cat. 3 or 2 while it was passing over us, so definitely not the worst we've ever seen, so driving in it wasn't too bad. We took the central road so we didn't have to deal with the high surf and pounding waves that were undoubtedly battering either shore. We got to town, stopped at G135 (Bermudian's won't let even a hurricane stop them from drinking) and decided it was too dead to stick around, so we walked around the corner to Docksider's to see Langhorne Slim's show, put on by our good friends at Volcanic Productions. Now I'm usually not big on acoustic stuff but this guy was an AMAZING performer and it was totally worth risking life and limb to see the last 5 songs of his set.
This is me and Tarah @ Langhorne Slim. Take note of my haphazard appearance and wayward hair.
We hung around Dockie's for a few drinks and some socializing, met a few members of the band, and then invited a few of our stranded amigos back to the hotel. (Stranded as the bridge connecting their side of the island to the "mainland" had been closed at 8pm that night in order to prevent people being washed off it in the midst of Big Bad Bill.)
We stopped in G135 briefly again before heading out, there were more people there now, though to be honest there were more outside smoking than inside dancing. Tarah hopped on the mic for a bit and freestyled and I got a free shot of Patron. Then we drove back to the hotel, which still proved to be a not too difficult task.
At this point, and having not had much sleep at all in the past few days, I had another drink, another smoke, and passed out on the floor. (In my defense, everyone at the hotel had already made the decision to go to sleep, and it just looked so inviting...) Apparently after this Tarah and our invited guests had run around the golf course, and had almost gotten blown away. Haha.
In the morning we went downstairs for an amazing brunch, and then played guitar for a bit before checking out. After which, Tarah drove me home, I watched TV for a few hours, and then fell asleep until 4am. A hurricane will take a lot out of a girl.
P.S.
After having lunch with Nick Steel on Friday I finally obtained the photos from Beachfest. I'll upload a new album so you guys can enjoy some more Bermudian-themed excuses to party. Still working on getting the ones from my show at the Action Party... why getting copies of them is so difficult is truly beyond me.

Glad you were able to make the best of it. Good to hear from you too.

Sounds a bit like what we do sometimes when Cyclones hit. Sounded like good, if somewhat risky, fun.
