Sometimes I wish I were able to completely ignore politics and the people who are over-zealous about it. Sometimes I really want to violently shake the people who live in the dream world that America is the only country or government that is relevant or right. I firmly believe that the two-party system, capitalism, and the ideal of democracy are impossible and will burn themselves to the ground, but then again, I can't even remotely say I have any better solutions.
I don't know.
The majority of my friends are Christian conservatives and boast about their views all the time like a) everyone cares about them and b) like they're beyond the realm of debate. Of course there isn't anything wrong with either Christians or conservatives, or any religious/political affiliation (why, oh why must religion and politics always be mentioned in the same breath?), but what I can't stand is the refusal to listen or show appreciation for another person's viewpoint, whether you agree with it or not. I try so hard to be respectful and courteous and listen with my mind as open as I can make it, and I suppose because of this I expect others to always be trying for the same. However, someone is always sitting around waiting for an excuse to be offended and start an unnecessarily surly argument about shit that none of us can do anything about in the first place.
I guess I just get irked by ego and people who refuse to believe that a world that works (and has for thousands of years - take that, 234 year old countries) exists outside of America.
