It's sunday..man is it dreary out...i can hear the slogging tires roll by as cars whiz down the street at twice the speed limit..crazy fuckers...it's that nasty, foggy, wet and cold-ass day that makes you want to curl up and sleep like Punxsutawney Phil after seeing his shadow.
It won't happen, i've already got coffee onboard and i worked until 6am, awoke at 3 in the afternoon and clinicals will be dark and early in the morning at 7am...no sleep for this one.
It makes me think of all the different kinds of 'days' out there...not Monday-Sunday days...but a day like today, the "blue sky 72-degree" day, the "250-degree in the shade, lazily-drunk and floating on a raft in the middle of the lake" day, the "it's so-fucking-cold-outside-my-right-nut-just-froze-and-fell-off-and-is-now-rolling-down-the-icy-sidewalk" day. You get the picture...
We've all got those days when we're saying, I love it when it's blah, blah, blah outside....or I hate it when it's yadda, yadda, yadda outside... There's an association with certain kinds of days that can elicit memory of days gone by...it's not quite like a scent that's attached to a memory but I challenge anyone to walk outside on that 72-degree, sunny, blue-sky day and NOT have a memory of a similar day gone by flash through their mind.
A day like today, back when I was a kid, I stole out of the house early, snagged a friend and just ran around the neighborhood all day. There was a creek that we'd try and cross by way of a fallen tree with the waters rising all around...stupid as it was, we'd make up some cockamamy story of adventure when in actual fact, we were both near death if either of us slipped into the mirky water. I'd come back near dark....freezing, muddy, soaked completely through, tired as anything and i'd sleep through dinner, well into the late morning of the next day.
I'll stop waxing...anyone else out there have those days that stick in your mind??? anyone doing what i'd rather be doing right now??? anyone else have a 5-page paper due tomorrow and not one word written?? i'm thinking yeah...probably...
tot ziens......
