I'm really digging this blogging stuff. I've never blogged before because I always thought it was a little pretentious that you would announce to the world the little details of your life, but I realize that it is not about that.
After my flooding fiasco of last night, I decided to blog about it. Why? I have no idea, I was just feeling the need to talk about it, a vent a little. It felt great after typing it out. That's when it dawned on me that blogging is not about people reading your story, it's about you letting it out and putting your thoughts on paper (so to speak). Anyway, that's how it made me feel. If someone reads it, right on, if not, big deal, I am not thinking about it that way.
This weekend was fun. Nothing crazy, exciting fun, but it was just pleasant. Dinner with some friends on Friday, drinking with an old college buddy last night, and then the flooding fiasco was a surprise.
Once a month or or so, I meet up with some friends for a thing we call "Project Flaming Lips". We are enthusiast of super spicy food and like to "test" ourselves. It's been getting harder and harder to find spiciness levels that humble us, but at the same time we get to discover new restaurants and cuisines.
On Friday we went to Canton Chilli. We were looking for a decent Szechuan place, but after we found that all of the good ones are up in Markham, we decided to settle for something in Chinatown. After a little research I found Canton Chilli. It's a new restaurant in Chinatown and sometimes you never know what you will get in the Spadina district, but the place had decent reviews and we didn't feel like driving up to Markham.
It's not strictly a Szechuan resto, instead Szechuan and Hakka. Hakka is an Indian-Chinese fusion from the border region of Western China and Northern India. Food was tasty but oily. We did it family (communal) style and had Crispy Beef, Spicy Green Beans and Pork in a Black Bean Chili Sauce, Chicken Pakor, Canton Chilli Chicken, Hakka Fried Noodles, Steamed Garlic Pea Shoots (Dow Miu) with fermented bean curd, and a Moo-Shoo Wrap. The beans were piled high. There were twelve Pakors the size of a baseball. Probably 12 Moo Shoo wraps? They made sure we didn't leave hungry. The staff was friendly and more attentive that usual for a Chinatown place.
Here are some photos. Taken with an iPhone, but good enough.
Next up for Project Flaming Lips is some Hot Pot restaurant in Markham, I forget the name of it.
So that was my weekend. I have a big day tomorrow. A 2nd job interview with a mortgage bank downtown. I'm pretty pumped up about it. The people I met at the 1st interview were really nice and I got a great vibe from the office. It just seems like a happy place to work. Equally important, it's at a great location, on Bay st. just off the subway line, it's a raise from my current job, and it will be great experience in the financial sector which is quite valuable.
So the 2nd interview tomorrow is a meeting with the VP of IT. That usually means they like you and the boss wants to meet you to give the A-Ok on the hiring. At least that's what I assume from past experiences. My hopes are high, but keeping them down to earth enough to not get disappointed in case I don't get it.
Here is a bonus picture. The one on my linked in profile, striking a side pose and looking professional-like haha.
I can't believe it is March already! I hope to go back home to Sudbury in the next couple of weeks to see my family and friends and go ice fishing at the cottage at least once more before the ice melts. Hope you all have a great week! Peace!
