Damn this rain! (pun, play on words!)
My apartment is flooding. My dining room carpet is all soaked and water is coming in just as fast as you soak it up with a towel. My landlord just came here and we tore the carpet out and took it outside, however water is still coming in and I have to keep an eye on it with towels.
My landlord is going to Punta Cana on Monday for 1 week, but I made it clear to him I want this deal with ASAP because I am worried about mold problems. In fact, it's already starting to smell moldy. He tried telling me if I just kept it dry it will be ok, but I'm pretty sure the drywall and insulation are soaked behind the wall which can cause just as many mold problems. He is just trying to forget about it to go on vacay.
Normally I'm pretty easy to work with, but because there are mold problems, I am worried and want it to be taken care of now. Additionally there is damage to some of my property. I had a hunting rifle standing butt end up in a case, but the wooden stock is drenched and is already starting to swell and splinter. Also my oak bookshelf is soaked at the bottom. Those combined will be literally hundreds of dollars to fix.
Do any of you have experience with deal with this shit?
Does my landlord have to pay for damage to my shit?
Should I be worried about this mold?
Can I charge him for the hours of labor I am doing?
P.S.Also, I went out for dinner with a friend and I had like 5 pints of beer and I'm feeling drunk. Luckily I have more beers in the fridge, I'm just going to drink it away and hopefully I will wake up with a big hangover, but a fixed apartment.
