Thanks for all the birthday wishes. They were very much appreciated. And the birthday went very well. Sadly, though, no birthday sex was had.

My absence was due to a combination of factors that I'll get into at another time.

Here are the answers, I'll repost each one in the journals of those who asked them.

the_cheat asked:

What are you studying?

Which reminds me...

I'd like to take this opportunity to open up the floor for questions to be answered in the next update with long, convoluted answers.

So, um, questions?

- The summer is, apparently, the time of internet and power outages. At the end of the summer last year we lost power for six hours every five days (this was right after that huge power failure that hit New York and much of the North East). And, of course, internet was down more than it was up. Again internet is spotty (the cable company...

Well i think regardless of the political climate out there joining the military is something i have to do.

It must suck to lose power and internet like that all the time. Very frustrtating.

Glad your dad's ok. Mine nearly died a few times at work and life would suck without him and be hard to imagine. But our parents get older all the time and facing their eventual demise is not something i look forward to in the future.

- My editing skills have fallen apart. A pity.

- Finally got around to seeing the new Potter film and it seems as though I'm in the (somewhat large) minority that thought it was better than the first two. Much better. Better to the point of making the first film look bad and the second film merely competent by comparison. Most of my quibbles with...

I haven't seen the new Harry Potter movie, the second one was pretty good. The spiders scared the shit out of me though, I'm more afraid of spiders than anything.

As for teaching SAT prep, I coudln't help you..I'm Canadian and never took the SAT's. My ex boyfriend said the prep really helped him though, and that the guy doing the class was really helpful, so maybe you'd end up helping someone enough to get them into college? As a generalization, the kids doing the prep class probably aren't the big trouble makers anyways..

idle thoughts while a minidisc randomly plays:

1. "I Am Not" - Melissa Ferrick

It's odd how often we define ourselves by what we're not; how as a culture we really are who we choose our enemies to be. In some ways it makes me wonder if that limits our ability to see ourselves. If all I know is that I am not (fill in...

In all likelihood, I won't be able to reveal what I'm working on till the project goes public in about a year. Damned Non-Disclosure clauses.

Chewie will, in all probability, be used for a random trade-in, or sold to someone foolhardy enough to think they can fix 'im up. We won't get much for the old boy, I'm sure, but somethin's better than nothin'.

I love older films. Especially older film noir. Like cheeses, I like my noir aged.

my idle thoughts of you:
kid you are an amazing being
with much said from a lot of seeing;
through fragmented thoughts, cleaved
i siezed, adumbration of your cleverness;
my avarice thoughts of you baracade my true emotion,
so i will confine until ripe to acquit;
still you dont infatuate but infect blindsides,
with your sullen words and sullen eyes;
you should follow the portamento you play,
to appreciate every possibility;
its nice to know your no superhuman,
that someone of your integrity can be consumed
by love and its possessor,
that we all have something that can break down our walls,
like the next.

- Mine is apparently a past in review. Five conversations in seven days have revolved around talking about the past; from earliest memories (and wondering when the shine wore away from childhood) to questioning a few decisions made months ago. I have to wonder where all this reviewing of past events will take me. Possibly nowhere. But in the current place I'm at (trying to...

An honest reaction:

"They made a Lemony Snicket movie."

"Cool. Who's in it?"

"Jim Carrey."

"Fuck."

- It seems I flip-flop on the 9 minute Piper/David fight scene every time I watch They Live. This time I was really digging the way it was laid out; the way it actually informed the plot and characters instead of usual action convention of stopping characterization and plot for an action sequence. And the fact that the fight ended with a gut-wrench suplex...

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass . . . and I'm all out of bubble gum.

I love that movie. Few people see the joy of a movie that, at it's core, is pure drivel and makes no apologies for it.

I still haven't seen Kill Bill. I keep meaning too, but after so man poor cinema experiences of late, I find my self disinclined to lay down my hard earned -- oh, all right -- slacker arsed earned cash on anymore films in the theatre. The sound system in my house is better than most theatres anyway.

I used to watch the Stanley cup finals until all Canadian teams were eliminated. Now that there is a Canadian team, and my hometown team to boot, in the finals, I still can't bring myself to get into it.

Mainly, I think it was the "fans" in town that soured the experience for me. Psychologically and sociologically it's fascinating. People who a few months ago wouldn't have gone to a Flames game if you bribed them to do it, draping themselves in the colours and standing up to be counted amongst the mob.

Regarding Employment: That's not a bad idea. Who knows. I might as well have my resume ignored for jobs I actually want over having it ignored for jobs I'm qualified for. At least then, if I get an interview, I might actually go.

Alfonso's take on Harry Potter left me a little disappointed.

Ive never seen They Live, its been on the list of movies to see for while now.

I hope Nerdcore as a genre, never gets popular. Id just hate to see what little bit of cultural heritage my chosen clique has be sold on MTV.

I must admit, sometimes I really quite envy people who are able to accept binary distinctions.

I can't believe they tried to ban low-rise jeans in Louisiana. I'd be shit outta luck if I lived there - those are the only kinds of jeans I have!

Thanks for the compliment on the tattoo. I think it's great when people get it. smile
