(i) Hentai for Peace, anyone?
(ii) My hiatus should be over. All work that was devouring my free time like Galactus with a case of the munchies has been completed. Granted, free time should probably now be devoted to working on less time sensitive projects, but that would take discipline. Ah, well.
(iii) Asha's "Catwoman" set reminded me of a teasing and denial Batman fanfic I'd read when I was a freshman in college. The novella length story detailed the parallel relationships of Batman/Catwoman and Bruce/Selina, and it largely concerned Bruce/Batman trying to get into Selina/Catwoman's pants/leather jumpsuit, and her teasing him mercilessly. In the story's universe, neither knew the other's secret identity, and Batman ended up having his way with Selina, while Catwoman gave some relief to Bruce before discovering his secret and teasing him again. A very good story, especially if that's your kink. Alas, I've never been able to find it again. I've found countless Catwoman teases Batgirl stories and other variations, but not the one I'm looking for. And Asha's set made all the memories rush back. Lovely.
(iv) I was also struck by how much Zelda looked like a friend of the Italian Girl. Two years ago we (the Italian Girl and I) went out to Arizona to attend her friend's wedding. It was pretty much the last gasp of our ill-advised attempt at a normal relationship. We arrived three days before the wedding, barely seeing each other except during the night when we'd fuck in our cheap hotel room -- the same slamming, scratching, almost punishing sex we'd been having all summer as we stopped talking and the relationship soured. The wedding reception was spent outside of the dining hall, talking to the only interesting person there -- the roommate of one of the bridesmaids, a gorgeous redhead who towered over me, understood all of my references, and put my own knowledge of absurdist literature to shame. Later, back in Jersey, I learned that the bride had advised the Italian Girl ditch me, and she took the advice. It was for the best, really. But I never liked that bride.
(v) Both The Dark Tower series and The Baroque Cycle have been finished. Now I can finally set about reading them (well, finishing in the case of The Dark Tower). Ever since I had to wait four years to finish Otherland, I've made it a point to not start any series until it's finished. The Harry Potter books now the only current unfinished series I'm reading.
