- One of my favorite Lyndon Johnson quotes is: "We fought a war on poverty, and poverty won." It's the quote I think of whenever I hear about the war on drugs, and even more so whenever I hear about the coming war on porn.

- The new Magnetic Fields album is taking some getting used to. In an odd stylistic direction there are no synths on this album. Now, granted, many of the best songs on 69 Love Songs lacked synths, but since Merritt's traditional strength (aside from his snarky lyrics) is his skill with layered snyths, it just struck me as odd that he was to eschew them entirely. Or maybe I'm just griping because I haven't yet found a way to get inside the album; it's still code and I haven't yet found the key. I can see where I'll probably grow to like some of the songs, but it's telling that when I worked out tonight, I listened to Type O Negative and Melissa Ferrick (interesting duo, eh?) instead of i.

- Honestly, when I heard that Linklater was making Before Sunset I thought it was a bad idea (because I'm a horrible cynic). After seeing the preview, though, I have to admit that I'm very interested in seeing it.

- The bitch of now having available time and brainspace that was heretofore occupied by thesis concerns (ignoring for the moment the fact that the thesis has no quite yet been printed on the archival paper and that final tweaking still needs to be done after the meeting with herr professor later today) is that that gentle whisper in the back of my head about looking for actual employment and a career and focusing on these relationships that had for several months been pushed past the back-burned and off the stove entirely has now become something of a roar, and, had I thought that the thesis hoops were annoying and time-consuming and really not worth bothering with, well, there's a reason we wax poetic about this ivory tower. I'm being reminded that jobs never look appealing, the thought of a career causes low grade paralysis, and that rekindling relationships takes a lot of effort.

- Surely I can't be the only person who, after watching Kill Bill vol 2, thought to himself, "You know, I'd like to see more of that David Carradine." And then, after looking him up on imdb, I see that he's been working consistently, just in things I haven't seen. Odd, that.

"we fought a war on porn, and porn won" actually sounds kind of cool. because it sounds like a bloodless war, and the kind where those who are taken prisoner probably don't mind so much... wink

the big red ball belongs to the business school. is i guess one of those quality-of-life perks. but, heh, i wish i had a big red ball to come bouncing through the streets to follow me home!

good luck finding the actual employment your brain's whispering about... hope you make your way into something you find mostly fun. what kinds of work are you looking into?

my mom and I haven't ever really gotten along. We are constantly at odds. Maybe that's ONE of the many reasons I decided to move out here, I'm 6000 Miles away from her smile

And Mylf will most likely still be in the name... I've been seriously lacking in creativity. Hell, I'm not even the one who came up with Mylf in the first place... it was Pip's idea.
