Snow, snow, snow. I decided to work from home yesterday a)because of the snow and b)because there are fewer distractions (i.e. the internets). I barely got anything done, except for all my laundry.

I'm still trying to set a date for my thesis defense. For the uninitiated, I'll talk for an hour on my research for whomever wants to show up (students, faculty, postdocs, my parents), after which I will adjourn with my thesis committee (a group of 6 faculty that I assembled) and they will question me (hopefully not for that long) and then send me out into the hall to sweat for a while, before telling me I did good. At this point, the defense is really just a formality. People (at least in my department) don't get this far unless their committee is planning on letting them graduate.

The problem is that I have somebody coming in from NY to serve as an outside reader on my committee and getting his schedule to sync up is going to be a real bitch. Grr.

I have set a deadline for getting a full draft of my thesis written. I'm hoping to get it done by my birthday. Maybe I'm dreaming, as that's only a little more than two weeks away. If I'm not around here too much in the next week or so, you'll know why.
