Yesterday was good. My boss took the afternoon off to go outlet shopping, so I took it off too and went birdwatching. I went out at dusk to see the woodcocks (no jokes) as well. They're these cool little game birds with comically long bills. They're pretty hard to see on the ground (camouflage) but this time of year they do these amazing courtship flights right after sunset. About 10 minutes after the sun sets, you can hear them calling (a buzzy "peent"). Shortly after, they take to the wing, spiraling up really high, looking more like moths than birds. Eventually they quickly descend to the same spot and then repeat. The idea is to attract the females over to their location for breeding.
What's the strangest dance you've ever done for the purposes of attracting a mate?
