With Led Zeppelin coming up (it's still pretty unreal to write those words...) I've been thinking about this year concert wise and what an awesome year it has been! I'll try to summarize it along with some pictures with four big acts!
First of. I saw Ozzy Osbourne this summer! Being the huge Black Sabbath fan I am this was a dream coming true. Sadly he's not in the best shape of his life and his voice is far from perfect, to say the least. Nevertheless it was great to see one of my heroes! When they played "War Pigs" I think I had one of the best concert moments in my life! (Maybe "Stairway to Heaven" can top that?)
I saw Ozzy at the "Hultsfred festival" in Sweden and on the same festival played this man. I guess he has to be one of the most unknown legends in the rock history, he should be up there with Beatles, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. His name is of course Roky Erickson and he is a musical genius! I hope you've all heard his music or at least heard of him, otherwise I recommend you to check it out, you're in for a real treat.
Another highlight of my concert experiences was when he played "Night Of The Vampire". Here's a short video of that:
Two weeks ago I got to see Black Sabbath for the first time. Another big concert dream coming true for me. As I said I'm a huge Sabbath fan and I think they are simply the best band in the world! I have to see them again though, playing material from their first five records.
So, in two weeks time I'm going to see Led Zeppelin live. To imagine that I've seen four of the greatest bands/artists ever this year is pretty unbelievable and they have all been great performances! After watching "You're Gonna Miss Me" (a documentary about Roky Erickson) it's quite hard to understand that it was the same guy from the movie who I saw on stage.
I have two other shows to add to this list and they are two huge favorites of mine!
The first one is Converge! Again I saw them at this years Hultsfred Festival. Converge is another one of my favorite bands ever since I heard "Jane Doe" in 2002 or 2003 I think, I even have two tattoos to show my appreciation of the band. This was the first time I saw the band and unfortunately the sound was horrible. There were no bass at all during the main part of the concert and Bannon's mic was really low in the mix. You could hear the drums good and that was about it! Fucking lousy sound technicians! How I hate them sometimes!
In August I got to see Smashing Pumpkins. Once again, one of my favorites.(What can I say? I've seen most of my favorites this year!) They played a great two and a half hour set, my only trouble with this was that they didn't play any of my two favorite songs, "Bodies" or "Mayonaise". They did however play "Muzzle" so everything's forgotten!
I also have to give a special mention to Wolfmother who I saw at Hultsfred and they were pretty awesome. Enough with the pictures though! Unless there is a huge demand.
I can't really think of any bands now that I "have to see before I die" after this year, except for David Bowie who I still haven't seen live! I have to get around to do that next time he tours!
The concert year of 2007 has really saved this year music wise for me. It has been a terrible album year compared to last year. Last year I had to leave out albums I really wanted to put in a top ten list. This year I can't really find ten really good albums. No mindblowers at all!
Ok, so what was your best concert moments of 2007 and is there a record that I've just totally missed out on? Yes, I want to hear you're favorites from this year!
