My Great Nana died today. I am not sad though, it was the best thing for her in the end. She was 94 and had a pretty good life. She was the mother to about 13 children, and sadly watched many of them pass away before she did, including my Grandma. It must have been an awful experience. I always remember that when I met her on a trip to New Zealand, I was astonished at what a strong lady she was, even in her 80's. She got frailer after that, especially when her son Chris passed away. He was always one of her favourites, and it hit her pretty hard. We believe she began to give up after that. I don't blame her!
She died peacefully in hospital, she'd being singing with her family the night before, so I assume she must have died happy. She wasn't seriously ill or anything, it was just that she'd had a fall, and being so frail she broke her hip and other things. I don't think she wanted to get better, and I respect that so much.
I wish I could have seen her and got to know her more. It sucks living so far away from such amazing family. I hope she knows how much I admire her for the strong lady she was.
Rest in peace.
