I took a tour of a stately home in our area - Meadowbrook Hall. Built by Mathilda Dodge with the money she inherited after the sale of her husband, and his brother's, company - Dodge Motor Co. The house was started in 1926 and completed in 1929. Modelled on the old mansions in England, but with less of a statuesque effect. More homey. She lived to a a ripe old age, but 2 of her 3 biological children did not. She and her 2nd husband Alfred Wilson, adopted 2 more children in their forties. Mathilda was quite the modern woman for her time. Meadowbrook Hall is truly the most endearing of all the estates and castles I have visited on 2 continents. All day long I have been fantasizing about life in the 1930's, '40's, and 50's on an estate like this one. She and her eldest daughter were quite into raising and riding horses too. Growing up priviledged like that didn't necessarily guarantee a long life though. Death humbles us all.............

Hey! I've been soooo exhausted and just, well, depressed lately (see my blog). I do still have your number and I want to talk to you about getting back into riding after an accident some time, preferrably a time when I'm not falling-asleep-tired or antisocial-depressed. I've totally lost my equine passion. I don't know if it'll come back or not. Did you go through anything like that? How long did it take for you to get back into it? Was it Xena who tossed you?
