I went to Michigan this weekend. I hadn't been out of the city since x-mas, and dude, I needed it. I stayed on a farm with cows and trees and vines to swing from, near a store that sold vittles and used books. There was a lake nearby and I slept in bunk beds and listened to a friend play the guitar at night. I could see the stars and the stars could see me, and the moon looked like the sun, big and red and welcome. The cows ran past and looked at me, and they knew, and they knew we were on the same page. They did not eat the sweaters, or even try to chew on them, even though they could have. I promised them I wouldn't eat anymore cheeseburgers, and I meant it.

have your heard of sufjan stevens? he has an album about michigan. supposedly, he's going to make an album about every state. but it's really nice (thinks i). kinda folky, will oldham style a bit mixed with the sea and cake. maybe you know what i am referring to, maybe not. anyway, it provides nice musical accompaniment to thoughts about michigan.
