Just a few of the reasons I *heart* Starship Troopers:
-From the very beginning they set up that it's a very un-American kind of society--one that labels democracy as a failure that led to social chaos and views violence as the supreme authority--all the while doing very American things.
-The pretty young girl vomits on screen.
-Supposedly fans of the book were upset that Dizzy was cast as a female for the film. But I think they can relax, but even though the actor playing Dizzy is a girl, Dizzy's character is still meant to be male. Get it? Get it, suckers?
-Denise Richards chooses space-cock over man-cock. And I'm not talking about the dude she's all googly for.
-Any sign of individuality is rewarded by being killed by space bugs--anyone who wanders from the group is killed.
-Doogie Howser plays a telepathic Nazi who saves the day.
-The Smart Bug at the end is a giant vagina. Seriously, check out the last newsreel.
-Most importanly--it's a bad movie that's trying to be a bad movie, but they play it straight. It never winks at the audience because they honestly don't mind if you don't get the joke. Starship Troopers is one of the smartest comedies I've ever seen.
*a few more thoughts on it are hanging out here.
