ummm okay. so i get my mail today, and there's a flier for one of those charity lotteries in which i can win fantastic prizes while appeasing my sense of social responsibility by telling myself this is the best way to solve the problems in my society. however, the proverbial kicker is this: this lottery is to provide "hope thru homes" and end homelessness. which is fine. BUT the prizes are HOUSES for fuck's sake. maybe, instead of giving away $350,000 houses to people who have a hundred bucks to buy lotto tickets and using the proceeds to fund the construction of discount houses for low income families, they should instead just give the houses to the people that need them? i'm not quite sure what to do with this. because the people who need the houses don't have the hundred dollars to enter the lottery. instead, it's going to be won by someone who already has a house and just wants a better one. there is something so twisted about the whole thing. i'm not sure if it qualifies as irony, but it's damn close. it's like having a lottery the help the poor in which the prizes are money. just fucking give it to them, don't make it into some upper middle class game. fuck.
alright, that's all. off to philosophy homework.
