My wife and I have very simple wedding bands. They are just four-gauge half-round silver wire formed into a ring. I misplaced mine about six months ago, it's around here someplace, but we won't find it until we move.

I decided it was time to replace it, so I packed my rising sun Oliver up into his car seat and off we went to Burnie's Rock Shop on Johnson Street. I get there, park on Paterson. I unlock the doors, and crack my driver's side door open a tiny bit. I look behind me, see someone's coming, so I don't open the door. The stupid girl sideswipes me and peels my car door off like she's seeding a scotch bonnet pepper. Shatters the glass, bends my door in half like a taco.

Oliver didn't even wake up.
