so today was pretty shit.
I have this old husky that i groom every couple of months. its just a bath and blow dry to get all the loose hair out and even tho she is like 14, she actually enjoys her bath and dry. she pulls her owner in, cos she is so eager to come in to my room. it's funny how you pick up the differences in behaviour after something bad happens.
so while i was bathing her poodle friend, she was in the cage and wouldn't settle. i didn't think anything of it, cos she is a bit of a pacer. I put her poodle friend away and lifted the husky into the bath for her time. She was pacing in the bath too, but because she has bad arthritis I just figured she couldnt get comfortable... so i just kept bathing her and lathered her up in shampoo. Her back legs went and i just kind of figured again that she had just given up and decided to rest her back legs and sit down for the bath... she kind of sat up for a bit, then collapsed. i should of thought then... but i just thought she was having a rest... then she kind of was fitting. it looked similar to an epileptic fit (fits are not regular in general but i have seen quite a few in the past 8 years), so i just watched her for a bit see if it passed, her heart was racing and kind of convulsing and her eyes didnt look right, I was like SHIIIT she is having a heart attack. I ran to get Rachel (not lelaina) who used to work at a vet and i was like quick I think this dog is having a heart attack, she ran over and was like, we have to get the dog to a vet right now. so she ran to tell someone and i grabbed a towel to wrap her up cos she was covered in shampoo and sopping wet. Her heart was still beating, but she didnt look to be breathing her tongue was blue and had no colour in her gums... I was like, do I do compressions or something? I had no idea. I wrapped her up and Rach caught up with me and she was like, I'll get my car, and I was like nah, we need to get her there asap (luckily we have a vet at the next centre over - about a 600m or so walk) so i was like I've got to carry her over. Luckily she didnt weigh as much as huskies usually do. Rach grabbed her back end and we ran as fast as we could over there. I was hoping like hell no one would see us running a dead dog over there, luckily no one came by. Even tho I am alot fitter now, with the shock and carrying the dog and running, I nearly couldnt make it. i had to stop half way to pull my pants up and around half way after going stiff and limp then stiff again, the dog kind of put its head up and then i think that is when she died. i couldnt feel her heart beating anymore. we rushed thru the vets door and they led us thru to put her on the table. the vet pulled her tongue out and it was white. so gross. he was like straight away, I am sorry but this dog is dead. He put a tub down her throat they bagged her and did some compressions but there was no heart beat. I was shaking... fuck. I have never had a dog die on me before. fuck. what do I do! shit.
We left her body there and we walked back. all of this happened in no more than 10 mins. I came back and I was still shaking, I didn't want to have to call the owner... I never know what to say, I always stuff it up anyway. No answer. shit. So i continue on with the poodle. Try again, no answer. Then someone calls back, crap, crap, crap. It's the owner. I explain what happened and she bursts out crying. I don't know what to say. She says how she has been acting differently the last couple of days, hasn't been herself. I guess the dog had a pretty long life for a bigger dog. Still sucks it happened while I was grooming her.

That is so fucked, I'm so sorry you had that happen to you. I would have no idea what to do either, but it sounds like you thought fast, and did what you could. She wasn't alone and you did your best to help her. It could happen to absolutely anyone. Big hugs miss. xox.

Oh that's a really bad thing to have happened.
