so i had a nice extended weekend, which is exactly what i needed. my friend, murph, had some visitors that we got to entertain for a few days. his sister, amanda, and her friend, jenny, were here for 5 days, which is never enough time, but we made it work.
we left my place around noon on thursday for a lil camping excursion in hana. we went to the stores and got food, beer and liquor, the necessities, heh, and off we went. we stopped at ho'okipa on the way to show them the wind/kite surfers/boarders for a few minutes. then we stopped at wainapanapa to show them the black sand beach. at this point, it was about 4 and we still had a little ways to go, so we continued on our way to hana.
when we got to hana, there was no park ranger, so we got to camp for free, which is always a bonus. knowing that the sun would be setting soon, and that it would be pitch black at that point, we quickly set up our tents and got the grill going. we smoked, drank and ate until we all went to sleep.
and then the rain came. luckily we had rain guards on our tents, as it was pissing rain on us all night long. plus the wind was so strong, it was literally blowing the tents in half, with the supports in place?!?! either way, we all stayed dry and somehow even got rest.
friday morning we got up and packed away all our stuff. then we went on a long hike through the jungle and a bamboo forest. we came to many little pools and some big waterfalls. since it rained so hard the night before, the waterfalls were really going off too! normally we would have been swimming in the pools, but it was too dangerous with the rushing water conditions.
next we went to one of my personal favorite places out here, venus pool. this place has a huge fresh water pool that meets the ocean, so there's really nothing living in the combination of the sea water and fresh water. the best thing is the cliffs to jump off of. jenny was scared, but i got her to jump off the 30ft cliff twice, which was an accomplishment for her. amanda didn't do it, but oh well.
then we took the girls to see the red sand beach. it's red because of rust. there's a lot of iron, among other things, in the land, so the salt water rusted it over time to create red sand beaches. it is beautiful, to say the least. we also went back to the black sand beach again for them to get more pictures.
on the way back to our side of the island that night, we stopped in paia, the hippie town out here. our friend, worm, had some of his metal sculptures on display at an art opening. there were a couple of guys outside carving ice statues with chainsaws and chisels. one was a fish, and the other a pineapple. pretty wild to see that, as it was new to me. then we got home and slept.
saturday morning they went snorkeling and then met up with us on the beach later in the afternoon. we got pretty drunk there and decided to continue our party at our friend bryce's place once the sun went down. we got food and more beer, and grilled up all sorts of grub. then we went home again to sleep.
sunday we took the ladies to little beach for the weekly drum jam and fire dancing. little beach is a clothing optional beach that always has way too many old men walking around butt ass naked, but you learn to block that shitte out, heh. this time there were a few amazing sights to help us block them out too, thank gods. the ladies didn't strip, but i didn't expect them to. we had a great day soaking in the sun, drinking and smoking more.
on the way home that night, we stopped and had a huge meal at da kitchen. they make local style food and give you a lot of it for a great price. then we continued to my house and finished off our beer and liquor. we partied with my roommates until it was once again, time for bed.
monday, the girls wanted to go on another hike before they got on their plane. so we went to maka maka ole and hiked through another jungle to another waterfall. we drank and smoked, of course, and had as much fun as we could, as their time here was expiring quickly.
for their final meal in maui, we took them to paia's fish market, which is great fresh island fish. i rolled a couple of blunts and we got them rather blunted, heh, before we dropped them off at the airport. they both said they would be moving out here as soon as they are done with school, in about a year. so instead of goodbye, i told them i'd see them when they get back, as i hate goodbyes.
then murph and i came back to my place and decompressed, as this is the most we have done in that short of a period of time. i'm pretty damn sore from all of the hiking, climbing and swimming, not to mention the continuous partying, but i wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
great times...
aloha.
