I think it should be made mandatory for everyone in the U.S. to work in a restaraunt for at least one month. Sort of like compulsory military service is in some countries. The only way you could get out of this restaraunt service is if you're physically or mentally unable to perform the required duties. Why should this happen? Because people are ignorant of how much it fucking sucks when they come in within 20 minutes of the store's close. Especially when 40 freaking people come in within ten minutes. Kinda like tonight. We were still cooking food 40 minutes after we were supposed to lock our doors. Now, I know things like this happen, but they shouldn't. Go to McDonald's down the street where they're open 24 hours. You won't cost the closing workers there an extra hour and a half. Hell, you'll even get your food faster so you can hurry up and go to bed!
So instead of getting off at about 1 AM, I was there 'til 3. It was a busy day too, and this topping it off just made it that much worse. Ten hour shift of standing up, moving around with one ten minute break, that break being off the clock even. The least that could be done is to come in thirty minutes earlier, so at least we won't have to actually cook food after closing time (midnight). That shouldn't happen.
There. END RANT. It feels a little better now.

haven't technically worked in a restaurant, but I did work banquets for a convention center. Set-up, break down, and food service duties. Staying late always sucked, but I think it hurt less when the overtime kicked in...
thanks for the idea. I'll try it and see if my technology-deficient skills can understand exactly how it works. Have you tried posting anything?
