So I went to see Neil Gaiman last night. It was nice, a really long drive but it was worth it. There were a couple hundred people in the auditorium, more than I excepted really. It wasn't at 100% capacity, but it was still pretty full. Gaiman started with a poem from Fragile Things. I believe it is called "When the Saucers Came" or at least something very similar to that thought. I'm not one, really, for poems, but this was a good one. At first you think it's just something clever and for fun, but at the end there's a point behind it. Then he went on to talking about writing and the work he has written, Sandman and on, and about myth and fiction. Afterwards he read for us a short story called "Orange," which has yet to be published, in question and answer format (but without the questions!) about, well, fake orange tanning cream, I suspect, that turns into a little something else. Then he took a bunch of questions, some stupid, some not so much, and signed what I guessed looked like a good 700-1,000 books at the end. It was definitely a nice way to spend the night. I'd definitely go to see him again, if he talked about anything at all. Hopefully I'll get the chance!
