A rant, in one act.
I live in a very broken city. Our streetlights don't work. The power goes out randomly. Our gangbangers have PTSD. We're not so Big or so Easy no more, and thats fine for me. It is not however, fine for some people. Lots of people are leaving, heading for higher ground, better schools and places where they don't have to close City Hall because there's not enough water pressure to flush the toilets. I understand that and I respect it. I have friends who have left, friends who are leaving and its sad but I understand. Save your career, your marriage, your bank account, your sanity at whatever cost. Godspeed to you.
But stop fucking whining about it. New Orleans is a great city, with a unique culture. How many cities have their own cuisine, right? But at the end of the day, its just a city; a place to live, and if you're not prepared to live in a Tim LaHaye novel, find another one. Don't tell us how you looooooove New Orleans and how you'll come back when things are "better" and how you're going to loot Mignon Faget so your Atlanta condo can look like the House of Bourbon shit Fleur-de-Lis all over it.
We are not your caretakers. The people who stay are the ones who are going to make it work, and we're going to do it for us, not for you. We don't want to hear it.
