Native communities are not geographic in nature. They are not based on boundary lines or bloodlines, but rather they are based in mutual understanding and common cause.
On-reserve, we are not half-breed traitors. We are not apples looking to erase our traditions and culture.
Off-reserve, we are not red intruders. We are not chugs looking to steal whatever we can from "productive members" of society.
We are a people in transit, mobile tribes in a modern world. We are all expatriates, but we are all one step closer to our homelands than one might think.
Native communities are adaptive organisms with live connections going both ways, out and in.

Living in the same area as you, and moving here, has kind of left me unsure of how to feel about reserves. I appreciate your taking time to write about your situation as I know virtually nothing about it and we're practically neighbors! If you write more on the matter I will be here reading it with open ears and an open mind.
