So.... a little clarity after 2 days of depression....
The Montreal job was the real heartbreaker. I thought I was perfect for the job. I knew the product well, I knew the market, I had a complete home office which they needed. I would've been covering the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic market. I hit it off with the 5 principals in the company. I had great interviews all the way through. They flew me to Montreal and I really felt I jelled with everyone I met. I thought it was a lock. I really did. I found out yesterday the guy they hired they offered $45,000 package and he took it. That's way under market for that type of job and far less than I currently make. I wouldn't have taken the offer if they offered me that anyways. I was asking in the $70K-$80K range. The guy is in his mid-50s and had been unemployed for over 18 months.
So this is what I'm competing with as I try to get a better job. Fucktons of people willing to work for very little and get vastly underpaid.
The other job I was hoping for an offer, but I always considered it a long-shot. It was a company called ATTO technology and they sell computer hardware to big Computer OEMs like HP, Apple, Dell, etc. I've never sold to that market and I would have to have learned an entirely new product and a new market. They kept bringing me back for interviews though, and I had to do a 15 minute PP presentation which I thought went well. When the HR person called to let me know I wasn't going to be hired I asked her why,a nd she said, "The owner passed on you." That's it. Nothing more. Hmmm....
The Southeast territory would have been nice, ............for several reasons... ah well...
I sent out another resume to a pretty interesting looking position in my field. You get knocked down, what the fuck else are you going to do? Get the fuck up, dust yourself off and go back at it.
This song helped me get out of my funk today
