I finished a mix tape for my friend M. It was a great tape, and I'll give you the track list later. But I also made custom liner art for it. I took an old edition of the New York Times. I started by cutting out a gigantic "T" out of the stock report, so it was just this tiny, tiny print in a big grid of numbers, letters, codes... you know, jibberish to us lay people. Then I pasted on a whole bunch of cool clippings from the paper, and other "found art" things. Among them:
1. A B/W photograph I took last year at the Musee D'Orsay in Paris. There's this big statue of an angel with a sword, and I took the photo from sucj an angle that there's a skylight right behind it, and you only see the statue in profile. It looked really cool.
2. A frame from a Mark Trail cartoon. There's a necklace lying on the ground, and a caption "the stones glitter in the midday sun" and a squirrel looking at it with this startled look on his face.
3. A picture of skinny guy flexing wearing a big T-shirt that says, "I AM ARTHUR ANDERSON!" and a bunch of people standing behind him clapping with signs and t-shirts that say "I AM ARTHUR ANDERSON!"
4. Pull quotes from various op-ed pieces, including two, which I put next to each other, that said, "Does God really object to condoms?" and "An old idea now belongs to Bush"
5. A pictire of a child standing next to a freakishly large sculpture/baloon/likeness of Dora the Explorer.
6. A fully labelled diagram of the human body, front and back.
7. A fortune cookie fortune I got that said, "Maybe you can live on the moon in next century"
8. An old Broadway poster for "Three Penny Opera"
Then, I used paint to color certain features of the pictures and certain words in the quotes, so it had this cool, Sin City sort of look to it, with the bright colors on all black and white.
It was neat.
Here's the tracklist.
