I've just found out that in two days I will be flying to Wenatchee, Washington to see my Grandmother. I've only seen her a couple of times in my life. This will be the last chance that I get.
She's in a hospital as I write this. When she is released, she will be living in a nursing home until she passes. I'm told that it will only take a couple of months.
My mother, stepfather, and I will fly out on Saturday. My stepfather and I will return on Wednesday. My mother will stay with her until she passes.
I have an aunt and uncle who live there also. I've never met them or my cousins. I've always wanted to see them and Washington State. It looks beautiful out there.
I'm told that my being there will make my Grandmother very happy. There's that, and the idea of just getting away for a few days, meeting family who I'd only spoken to briefly on the phone as a teenager, and being there for whomever needs me.
Circumstances make it a bittersweet endeavor, but I hope to make the most of it and to enjoy the time that we'll have. That, I feel, is the best possible path.
It's a little bit of a Too-Big-And-Too-New-Idea right now for me to fully grasp. I've gone places on the spur of the moment before, but never across a continent.
Wierd. But nice I think. I get to see some of my family.
