If someone (whom we'll call the antagonist) has to come up with pseudo-intellectual comments and questions designed to tear down something that someone else has said, seemingly only for the sake of doing so, they (the antagonist) are only making themselves look insecure about their own intellect. That is to say, in the eyes of those who spot it and understand it for what it is. Other, less observant people may indeed go along with it in thinking that they (the antagonist) are the greatest, smartest thing since the invention of the zipper. But the antagonist knows, and we know, that they're only tearing other people down to make themselves feel better. To feel smart. To feel like they're better than everyone else.
There are much more productive ways to deal with insecurity.
For example, the Mexicans next door finally figured out after several years how to deal with the insecurities they seemed to have when they arrived. They dealt with it in a positive manner, and we get along fine now. They no longer feel the need to very loudly make their presence constantly known to garner respect from others. Indeed, in this neighborhood, it was working to the opposite effect and almost resulted in their eviction. They were always polite. Now they are quieter and still polite, and people are beginning to like them.
(Yes, "You-Know-Who-You-Are", they really are Mexicans. Unless another nation stole their flag. Unless Puerto Ricans, Brazillians, Argentinians, Panamanians, Chileans, and whomever else they could potentially be, often find themselves inclined to carve "Mexico" onto pumpkins for Halloween.
I'm glad that we've cleared that up right away this time.)

A world class attention whore and all around pain in the ass.
