Today I was given the opportunity to sign, as a witness, a stranger's end of life paperwork at the hospital, after running into a chaplain in the elevator at the hospital post-physical therapy. Saddest thing ever... to be dying in a hospital and have no one there but a stranger to witness your end of life wishes...
This makes me upset. I don't deal well with death, but I can't leave a person to die alone... Airborne contagions or not, I was in that hospital room with an elderly man who only spoke Chinese and looked like he couldn't have weighed more than 70 lbs. It unnerves me... the thought that one day I might only have a stranger by my death bed.
Someone must witness it.
I hope he gets wherever he wants to go. Good luck with your journey, old man.
