I guess when you do something just to be nice, there shouldn't be the expectation of "thanks". Afterall, isn't that feeling of helping enough? Sometimes, yeah, but sometimes you just would like a small bit of acknowledgement.
For example, this afternoon I was going to a store and held the door open for a few people. No biggie. But then as I was a few steps in from the door, a young couple rounds the corner and they have their hands full with a newborn and a few bags. So I turned around, opened the door and held it for them. They made no effort to even show that I helped them: no little nod, or wave or even eye contact. They just paraded right through as though they were living at the Ritz and I was the doorman obliged to hold it.
Does this make me selfish? Maybe. Does it also make some social commentary about the decline of manners and self-centered expectations of people today? Possibly. Does this give me something to post about? Definitely.
The weekend of the 24th is extremely full of activity here in Little Rock. First off we have the Arkansas Inksplosion Tattoo Convention happening all weekend. Check out the link for more info. On Saturday night, Evanescence is having a concert, with Chevelle and Finger 11. I have a fencing tournament Saturday morning in Memphis. And lastly, the local qualifiers for the toughman contest (I could really give a shit about this last one). Unfortunately one set back to all of this came up at work. I have to be in Williamsburg, KY through Friday, and it's a 9 or 10 hour drive back. But I am still hopeful. I have to start planning now, picking exactly what I want to do. For sure I am hitting the tattoo convention. The rest is up in the air.
the bike is in the shop... the break-in stage is not over, and a few quirks have popped up. but thankfully its all under warranty.

You see that kind of attitude more and more. The world owes me something kind of thing. But you shouldn't let it keep you from being nice to others. Nice people rock!
