just got back from a last-minute trip to Beaumont, TX. my boss called me on Sunday night and informed me we had to fly out Monday morning for work. talk about throwing my schedule into t loop. but everything was great. the job went smooth and i got to see another new city. i've only been to the Gulf from Texas about 3 times: South Padre Island and twice from Galveston. But this was a little different than both of those places. the sub-tropic nature of the area was more apparent. for some reason I necer think of the US of having any sub-tropic climates other than Florida. there was still major evidence of the hurricane, but mostly things were in working order. our hotel was only able to house people in half the rooms; the other half was still under repairs. everyone seemed at ease with the current state of things. houses were still being re-roofed, buildings were getting new siding and so forth. kind of makes me wonder what's going on in Mississippi's Gulf area.
in other news, i did good at my fencing tournament this past weekend. i qulaified in the advanced level in two weapons for this year's National Competition. I have a chance to qualify in the elite level, going against Olympic-style athletes, but i think it's a long shot. i'll let you know how it turns out.
gotta catch up on some sleep now.
