Time is like a river. It flows all around you and you don't even pay attention to its course. But that's the danger of a river, while you're surrounded by it, you think there's plenty of it. You don't see the sudden drop off of the waterfall until you're plummeting over the edge without so much as a barrel to soften the ride.
Where are my answers? The ones I seek to get out of this crazy ride. I know they are near, like the waking remnants of a dream. You can see them out of the corner of your eye, but when you try and turn to catch them, they dissolve like so much smoke. My mind fastens onto one shining answer, like a beacon amongst all this fog. Chicago. This weekend I spent there was one of the best weekends I've had in a long time. Hanging out with SG people, seeing the city, being self reliant. It gave me a destination. A course to steer toward, only hoping that I don't hit that waterfall before I can get there. The boat? A job. Not the dream job, certainly not that nice sleek speedboat that will get me to shore, but most definitely something with an engine that can resist the pull of the sudden drop. The plummet to oblivion. 911 Operator. There are openings, that I am qualified for. So that's where I go today, and only hope that they aren't all snapped up. 15 dollars an hour, that's certainly a sight better than the big fat 0 I make now. Maybe now I can stop treading water, being drawn inexorably toward that time when I'm expelled from the safety of my home altogether. I would say wish me luck, but Lady Luck isn't my date today. Lady Luck left me for the guy with the bigger muscles and the corvette and she's probably in some hotel room right now banging against the headboard.
