so i ended up just taking today off, which was nice. i didnt get up until after noon, and then ate breakfast at the diner down the street with natalie. after that, we went to the ne aquarium and looked at some fish, birds, jellyfish, etc, which was pretty awesome. the aquarium has a big cylindrical 'ocean' tank that is something like 23 feet deep, and you can walk up a ramp from the bottom to the top (or from the top to the bottom, if you take the elevators up). there are also four groups of penguins around the base of the tank, so as you walk around you continue to get views of the birds doing their thing, which is very amusing. although, it was a bit disturbing to notice how many birds just kind of zone out and stare at the wall, slowly leaning from one side to the other.
in any event, now i need to read the papers for journal club this week. we're looking at a few papers that look at the ability of dorsal root axons to regenerate in the presence of NGF, NT3, and GDNF (BDNF doesnt work, and i dont know why). after that, i think im going to end up drinking with the few people in my class who did not go up to vermont this weekend to ski.

I got up early yesterday, went and had some entirely lovely eggs benedict and potatoes (home fries NOT hashbrowns), then went to the library and worked a whole bunch. Then (with a ridiculously large posse) went to the pub, then to see Shaun of the Dead, then back to the pub. Today... more work!
What's the journal club?
Yes, Shaun of the Dead is totally awesome.
