i realized that ive managed to reach a point in my medical training at which my vocabulary is significantly different from what it was when i started. this is not a surprise. i am astonished, however, at how hard it is to go back to what i used to have. that is, its really hard to conceptualize something in medical terminology and to form a concrete, acceptable, and cogent clinical description while also being able to tell the patient, who is not acquainted with any of the terms, what the fuck is going on. i really need to work on trying to figure out how to answer questions from patients based on how they were asked, cause man oh man, does the manner in which a question is asked tend to reflect the way in which said person expects the response to be structured.
