Jeff the Karmadillo.
I think the theme for today was undoubtedly karma. Generally, I workout super early, and do a little yoga on my back porch while the sun comes up. I drink my espresso, and life is good. I am fortunate enough to live on a beautiful river, so the scenery is wonderful, as is the assortment of creatures that also call my backyard home. This morning, I noticed a curious little fellow down by the river's edge. An armadillo, sitting still by an aloe plant. I went over to check him out, and noticed he was injured. Something much bigger than he had done a number on him. Moments later, I noticed the large alligator that was submerged about three feet away from us, obviously planning on making him a meal. I am typically an alligator fan, and I welcome them when they make their way up into my yard. But, I was not too keen on the idea of this particular gator making a meal out of my new friend. I promptly picked up the little guy, and brought him back up to my house. I called my sister, who is a vet's assistant, and came by to pick him up and nurse him back to health. While we waited for her, I decided needed something to call this little gentleman, so I dubbed him, "Jeff".
My sister told me Jeff should be okay in a few days, and will be able to return home to the woods. Apparently, Jeff is a bringer of fantastic karma, because the rest of the day was excellent. I was in the studio, and things just came to me unusually easily. I got into a groove, and I got way ahead of schedule, and went to the back lounge area where I found my long lost jacket hiding under a blanket. Of course, this would be enough to make anyone's day, but, just a few minutes later, my manager came in and surprised me with tickets to go see Eddie Vedder's ukulele show, and told me that he had arranged for me to meet Eddie before the show. Eddie Vedder to me is like the Pope to a Catholic, so needless to say, I was ecstatic. My first album was Pearl Jam's "Ten", and ever since I have been obsessed. I attribute this bit of good fortune to my new friend, Jeff.
Now, I know for days I have been promising entertainment. For me, this usually comes through humor, or at least my feeble attempt at it. People laughing is one of the most wonderful things in the world. However, I stumbled across this photo today, and I thought it was too nice not to attach. Here it is. I will post some funnier stuff tomorrow. Thanks and love, R.
