Bad news: I might not get to blog quite as much for a while.
Good news: I GOT THE PART! Rehearsals start tomorrow... I will be CHESTER THE CAT in this demented, twisted production calculated to scandalize the county!
And that will certainly help take my mind off this CONTEST business... which will be OVER in less than two weeks. But I've really got to share an exchange that took place today.
Seems some shady character well known to me (for pretending to be a bigshot interested in promoting my movies and doing nothing but dicking around and leaving me hanging for over two months) would like MY vote for one of HIS short films.
Convo follows.
HIM: Hey guys n' gals n' in-betweens!
i entered a ----s-inspired short film contest. Voting ends Friday. I'm tied for #1 right now. The winning film gets released on the IT CAME FROM ---- DVD.
Me: Will you vote for REMO D. in the Rondo Awards in return?
Him: Wow! I have my Rondo ballot in my email and know I need to send by next week. I think a whole weekend of horror hosting would be fun. There was something I used to watch as a kid in CA and then in the NW that had the whole spooky castle with mist everywhere and I loved it so much. Think it's been 34 years since i've seen that show...
Hmmm... that doesn't sound like an answer to my question, does it? So I tried again.
ME: Well, your vote gets mine--let me know what you decide--I've been horror hosting non-stop since 2002...
HIM: Sad thing on that particular area is that I can't see the other hosts. I do usually like to keep a fair spread on voting but I do know you and I know you're en pointe! It's not hard to pick a winner in that category, S--!
Wow... that STILL doesn't sound like an answer, does it? So I tried again...
ME: Well, if it makes you feel better, I can show you my Facebook, etc. notes which pledge that if I ever win this thing, I will refuse to accept it under my own name and will dedicate it to ALL hosts (who ought not to be subjected to this sort of competition in my book). Meantime, I regularly share as many other hosts' work as possible in my personal timeslot. So a vote for Remo truly is a vote for ALL hosts and I'm not just "saying" that.
So we've got a deal?
HIM: I read that on your myspace page. I thought that was veyr humble and diplomatic!
Is it just me, or has my question STILL not been answered???
ME: Thank you--I mean it. So straight up--do I have your vote?
HIM: I would say so if I don't know anyone else on teh ballot and there is no way to check their work.
Wow. Just wow. I'm after a simple YES or NO here. So I gave him an easy one.
ME: ...one last question--have you ever actually watched my show?

Gee... then maybe I'll say that I'll vote for him if I don't know anyone else in the contest and nobody does a better job than he does... that's what friends are for, right?
My dear SG friends... I know that I've been pushing this contest and this ballot for a while. That's because it means something to me, and it's because I try to make my show available for everyone who wants to check it out. I'm not asking for "sight unseen" or "pity" votes--on the other hand, we're a community of friends, and when any of you request the help of friends in contests in which THEY'RE participating, I'm only too happy to reciprocate. Because that IS what friends are for. Believe me, if you're NOT interested, I'm not going be a jerk about it and start nagging you individually. The blog is a place where you can check out the MANOR. The blog is a place where you can reach the contest and vote (or not). And the blog is the place where I promote my Hopeful Friendlies!!!
SO... one more pitch for the contest (under the spoilers--nothing you haven't seen if you've already voted).
