Hey all,
So let me first apologize for missing last night. That was not so much a conscious decision as it was me falling asleep earlier than expected and thus being unable to blog. Granted, I'm not sure if anyone is actually reading these things, so I think that apology was more of a way for me to publicly explain why I missed a night after I was so gun-ho about keeping up to date with this stuff. But alas, I digress.
So I'm back in DC now. Fun stuff. I've been needing this vacation for awhile now, and it's nice to be able to see my sister, brother-in-law, and friends again. However, it seems that old adage about never being able to go back home holds some truth to it after all. I met up with a friend of mine tonight at our usual watering hole, and I was excited to see her. It wasn't all fun and games though, as her boyfriend had broken up with her not 24 hours before. Naturally, the night revolved around catching up, but also helping her feel better, making fun of her now ex, and just generally trying to forget the whole incident.
Now at some point, the question of her looks came into play, and this girl is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. I would say she's an 8, but she says 7, and naturally that led into some back and forth banter. As alcohol was involved, we quickly compromised on a 7.5, and called it a night. Afterward, while she was walking with me to the ATM, I asked her what she thought I ranked, just for shits and giggles. Without hesitation, she said I was a 3.
Now, I understand that I asked the question, and I also equally understand that I'm by no means a looker, but to be suddenly hit with that by a friend, it took the wind out of me something fierce. I think she realized what she had said afterward, and tried defending her point and seeing if I wanted to know what I ranked with my personality included, but I was a little too shellshocked to care. There I was, standing on the side of the street, being told by my best friend that I was, at best, a 3. I quickly walked her to the metro, hugged her good bye, and caught a cab home. After that, it's kind of a blur.
Now, this isn't supposed to be a "look at me, look at me, I'm trolling for compliments". I understand the reality of how I look and am trying to improve on it. I think I what I'm simply trying to do is voice how disappointed I am by this to someone, anyone, the whole internet maybe, even if no one is reading this. It just helps being able to vent and scream, even to the internet at large.
So, that's my night. Not great, but I guess not awful either. I do feel better though, having talked about it, and to anyone still reading this, I hope that you never have to go through the pain of hearing yourself cut down by one of your best friends.

I think that's really sad that she would say such a hurtful thing to a friend. Keep your chin up! You don't need friends like that.
