i think i have a tendency to pay forward. i often have the bad happen before the good. lately, it was that we got seriously screwed over by rental corporation, only to find the perfect apartment. it seriously sucked for a while, but this place is great and i, at least, love it every day.
so yesterday... spott & i got in a fight. we've never really gotten in a fight before then, and it seemed bad at the time. then, because we were taking our "few minutes apart to think" at the time, i had to shop alone for an outfit for the wedding we were going to (i hate shopping alone!), and luckily i ended up finding something fabulous! then we got to the wedding...
*the story* when i was a teenager, i met a girl i'll call mimsy. she was fun, weird, incredibly intelligent, silly, impromtu-all the things that make for a great friend. we became good friends, and our siblings eventually got to know each other through us. my youngest brother ended up spending quite a bit of time with, and becoming best friends with, mimsy's next younger sister, panda. panda got married yesterday afternoon...
the wedding was long as far as methodist weddings go. it included a sermon about the bible passage they chose, and communion as well. but it wasn't bad. at least the minister had a sense of humor... and at least when he called the congregation to communion, he said "if you consider yourself a christian..." instead of "i'd like to invite you all..." like he was trying to convert the crowd. and still, being a longer methodist wedding, it was less than an hour long. good stuff there. spotty & i left with some very definite ideas about what we want...
in between the wedding and the reception, we went to visit nessa. i love that girl! we had to go to my old officemax store to see her. when we walked in, she nearly jumped over her counter! hehe. apparently she was happy to see us, and she gave us the once-over a couple of times. fun fun! then she stuttered and stumbled her way into finishing cashing out the guy she was helping, while i nearly got tackled by teri, and then nessa managed to get her lunch break while we still had time to hang out. good times! then we hauled ass to get to the reception...
the reception was nice because they made short with the "traditions" and got right to the food & dancing. oh, they did the introductions, the special dances and cake-cutting, but kept it short. even the best man, al, whom i've always known to be disgustingly long-winded, kept the toast to "i've known this guy my whole life, and if anyone deserves true happiness it is him. god bless." i was astounded.
the food was good, the dj was..... ok..... the company was like looking through the my high school yearbooks, (well, not exactly... john the flambouyantly gay hairdresser and his oh-so-adorable boyfriend dan weren't anywhere in MY high school!) and i got to talk to mimsy for a while when things started to die down.
she and i, in growing up, went through some times where were were just too different to get along well, i think. now that we're both a little more settled (she's in new haven now and with a great guy), a little happier, we get along well once again. so apparently the short trip to philly we've been trying to plan is turning into a vacation toward the eastern seaboard... heh.
after a little bit of a jumble trying to find the bride's clothes so she could get out of the layers of corset-ish clothing, the party was officially over, and we all went home.
i came up the stairs into our apartment shortly after 1am to find a note left in our door... the guys in the back were having another party, stop by if we'd like, and sorry for the inconvenience. we had done our partying for the night, and were ready for the sleep we were not about to get... once again crashing on the couch-ish, we were awake half the night/morning, and i ended up on the floor because were i was sleeping hurt. it was no good.
so now i'm up. while i've been typing this i've had my morning cup of tea. the allergy head i always wake up with is starting to clear, and i still am a little fuzzy. since i didn't drink nearly enough to even be drunk last night, or hung over today, i'm hoping the rest will clear once i get moving around more. spott & i have had an invitation to visit and game with a friend of mine from work today. i should probably call him back, ne? heh.
so off i go. i'll post pics from the wedding when i have them.
