crazy won't back down-ness averted, mostly. i feel silly that i didn't fight most of my own fight on this one, but spott specifically asked for the rights. i gave them to her. i also had a bit of a conversation with my non-religious friend krin. she posted fun comments afterward.
the 2 houses we looked at were quickly filed into the category of "not a damn chance". the first one was a very nice little house, but unfortunately way overpriced and in an area i wouldn't want to live in without bullet-proof everything and many large mean dogs. the second, well, the realtor assumed we were ignorant and inexperienced (yes, i admit i look younger than i am, but i really do my homework) and tried to sell us a house that was only worth the cost of its frame, and perhaps not even that. the pics i saw online were some hella false advertising, from a long time ago, before the floors started bowing and the walls started cracking, and the large portion of the living room ceiling falling down due to water damage...
good thing about yesterday, we found a realtor we like. he showed us the first house we looked at, and as soon as we were away from the owner told us flat out not to buy it. he told us that it was priced $15k over the assessed value, and it wasn't worth it for the area. i very much appreciated his honesty. after that, we ended up being shown around some different areas that are decent to live in with properties for sale in our price range. good stuff man. then we went back to his office to punch up some more on their web search, make a list of properties to get appointments for next saturday, and then off to the other appointment we went.
my mom is trying to convince me not to move to rochester at all. well, she's not going to. she has also said "if you're going to buy, stay the hell out of the city!" what if all we can afford is in the city, and the city makes most sense for where we will be working? at least we can find a neighborhood where most of the owners live in their houses instead of renting and don't feel the need to have a security system more complex than a dog and a lock.
anyway, time to go! my great-grandma's 92nd b-day party is this afternoon. heh i'll be lucky if she remembers me
