Well, I finished 23rd. I'll take it, considering I busted my ass for it. The car overheated twice. During the first stop, we let it blow out the pressure before refilling it, and then I'll be damned if the carb didn't vapor-lock on us. In a nutshell, the car didn't want to start back up. After losing a bunch of laps trying to get it refired, we finally got it back out on the track, but with future problems to come.
I came out like a bat outta hell, primarily because I was pissed. The hood was gone (damaged in an earlier incident), the tires were cool, and so was the engine (at least for a bit). Then the temp started climbing again. It held steady for awhile at 230 degrees, and I thought that maybe we had this thing licked....heh, heh, heh.
Then it went up to 235, and I began to worry again. I backed my speed down (since I was already laps down to begin with) to try and get it to hold steady and just finish the race. But sadly, the temp crept upward. As I was getting ready to bite the bullet and come in and retire the car, a car up ahead of me looked like he was gonna hit the wall head on. I prepared to evade him when he suddenly jerked left, right into my path. I jammed the brakes, put my hand in the air (a signal to other drivers danger ahead) and cut my car left to miss him. WHAM! Someone behind me creamed me right down the left side of my car, damaging my front suspension. I didn't even bother trying to limp to the finish. I just pulled it in the pits, and started loading what was left onto the trailer. Turns out I was only about 10-15 laps shy of finishing. Out of 250 potential laps, I completed 137....
I KNOW I can do better than that.
