"You are not responsible for what your friends do, but
you will be judged by the company you keep.". ~ Leonard Cole
It is distressing to me to what I would deem to be a somewhat respectable person (a rare find in this decrepit landscape of metaphysical decay) consorting with the most vile and unpleasant of scum one is likely to encounter. This instantly lowers my opinion of said person putting them squarely in line with rest of the scum. I will never understand the tastes some people seem to have in friends. Its not difficult to determine if someone is worth your while. All it takes is a bit of common sense, a shred of dignity, an ounce of self respect sprinkled lightly with a touch of class. Perhaps this is just too much to expect from anyone. The problem arises in being overly nice to everyone you meet. Show any amount of kindness to the average miscreant scum and they view this as an opportunity to latch on to you and never let go. While I would not advocate being outwardly hostile towards everyone (I wouldn't exactly object to this either) I do recommend an attitude of neutrality until such time as you can determine if this person is not a total shitfucking asshat (most are). Given a few months to a year of maintaining a non-asshat status and maybe, perhaps I could begin to warm up to said person. This has yet to actually happen. I do so hate people.
