So I had an interesting rant today while sitting with my friends. I tried to explain to them how music has rules in certain realms, and how realistically, like anything visual, ideas are projected best through certain tried and true sights and sounds. Bach was able to compose flawless music, without having to worry about following "the rules," which were almost immediately adapted to and based upon his work. To create a sound that will evoke a feeling of finality, comfort and closure in music that is composed in any major or minor scale (which is nearly EVERYTHING we listen to) simply use a V chord on the weak beat, and follow it with a I chord on the strong beat. Similarly, to best paint a portrait with a given medium, certain shapes and shading are used to create dimension, thus giving it a realistic feel. There is a method used; a school of thought.
But then I had to explain, that people in many societies now have become so wonderfully comfortable with Bach's music that they are no longer surprised by it. Thus - "abstract art." A new way to evoke these same feelings through sounds or visuals, that is EQUALLY effective to that of the "old rules." Now, there is some WONDERFUL shit. It took someone open-minded to come up with that stuff.
People create rules and become so convinced in them, that they accept it as the only way. Innovation and creation tend to come with breaking these rules. We completely shut out an endless number of other ways to effectively do ANYTHING.

...fuckin nuts.

In other news: I love having Oren around. I can't wait for Jeremy to come back. I am going to hardcore be lonely without Krystina when she's in Chicago. I am SO fed up with being sick.

Hey there cutie! Thanks for the support. Yeah, don't go rushing into marriage any time soon. Wait forever until you can wait no longer, and, if you must, go for it.
