Merry Christmas, everyone. I was trying to come up with something profound to say for Christmas morning, but I saw a post about the World War I Christmas truce and thought it might be perfect. On Christmas Day in 1914, just months after World War I began, the troops on both sides initiated an unofficial truce to celebrate the holiday. To put it mildly, command staffs didn't like it, but the troops sang carols, swapped food and souvenirs, and played soccer games. Perhaps it was the last shining moment for humanity, peace, and joy before it was overcome by hatred, violence, and brutality for four years. Let us remember the Christmas truce and be good to each other, living the words of Luke 2:14: "...and on earth peace, good will toward men."
