i was on 6th avenue and 56th st. please don't ask why, but i saw a very interesting spectacle.
all of these midwest-imported kids were standing around, wandering in groups, all wearing the same color t-shirts. there were like 4 different t-shirt "teams" i noticed, as i was mackin' on my gyro from a street vendor, i studied the crowd. when a few groups wandered by, i noticed that the shirts all had modeling agency names on them. these kids were in town for a "model-off" i guess...some big convention somewhere around 6th and 56th.
the kicker was this...and i swear this...i'm an accomodating person when it comes to physical beauty, and am definately not a snob...but all of these kids were BUTT UGLY...well, most were, and a few were attractive enough to be UNREMARKABLE at best.
What's the story? Is the modern media warping middle-america's collective mind enough to make them believe that there's room for more frickin models in america, ugly ones at that? I think these fucking agencies probably make most of their money off of these ripoff conventions, rather than the 15% commission they make off of whoever their working talent is. I hope that wandering around new york with a Barbizon Modeling T-shirt was worth the price of admission for these kids. If so, I've got no problem, i guess.
i hope someone gets "discovered"...
