Almost rained out at Malcolm Bowel.. I didn't realize hipsters were that tough. They started lining up for the general seating long before we started setting band gear, and held out through the threat of rain till show. During the setup the show was under constant grey clouds ( I guess that's kind of hipster weather really...) Which means that once the band starts to play the heavens will always burst. Thankfully I was there only for the in and out, so i missed the soaked hipsters till I returned for the strike. It was nice to scale back from the behemoth that was AC/DC to be crew on a small outdoor show for an indy band, regardless of the rain.
Just be a setup /tear-down mook, I've missed that this summer. Coiling cables and pushing road cases, and really working. I didn't even complain when the barricade had to be setup. At least I wasn't staring at a laptop while on the phone 24/7 looking for replacement crew. I was hoping during the setup to actually meet the band as, they had a really cool looking oversized, ironic- poser, fake amp covers ( see photo ) And, I actually like their music versus AC/DC - A band which I could care less for.
But, the band didn't sound check as there was a Wedding in the park area adjacent. They ( the wedding group ) probably booked the plot next door months in advance so it was absolutely fair that the bride and groom didn't have to yell vows over a Franz Ferdinand sound check. Although, they looked like a couple that would have thought it really cool. I'd hoped that they would invite the party into the grounds and do a mini set / soundcheck for the wedding party.. that would have been really fun and class.
And smokers do have typically bad breath Eww.
